Green Brook Township is a township in Somerset County, New Jersey, with a population of 7,203 according to the 2010 United States Census. The township's history dates back to 1872 when a tract of land was subdivided from Warren Township. In 1885, a portion of this land became the Borough of North Plainfield. Later, in 1926, another portion of land was carved out to create the Borough of Watchung. Finally, in 1932, the remaining land formed Green Brook Township, which was established from parts of North Plainfield Township.
The area has deep historical roots, with settlement occurring as early as the 17th century, long before the American Revolution. The land surrounding the Passaic River and what would become known as Washington's Valley played a significant role in the township's development.
